HIP-HOP BEGINNERS - Explanation

Hip-Hop Dance Styles is a combination of gymnastics, African dance/Capoeira, and martial arts. Breaking/B-Boy (Break Boy or Girl) is a combination of Top Rock and Uprock which are mainly seen in standing positions whereas the six-step, freeze, and flare are mainly groundwork. Popping is a dance style with the intent of simulating a shock or a “pop”effect when the popper is dancing to a particular rhythm which is mainly seen in standing positions. Locking is a dance style with the intent of simulating a “lock” of the arms and various wrist rolls and funk moves.

Course Outline:

The 6 week Hip-Hop dance will cover the three essential components; popping, and basic locking and breaking. Students will learn and practice each technique being exposed to various Hip-Hop/Funk recordings that support each particular technique. By the end of the course, students should be able to utilize each technique in various occasions where Hip-Hop dance will be showcased, judged, instructed, etc
